I have had the joy and privilege of performing music at many weddings over the years, some of which I also composed for. The very first one was the wedding of Sam and Sarah. In 2012, I composed and recorded this solo cello piece as an idea for what the wedding party could walk down the aisle to. After some discussion and rearranging, the end result was made shorter, cleaner, and stronger than the recording provided here. And so, I forgot about this original version, losing it among the files and folders of my computer.

Stumbling across it while collecting songs for Old Parts was more of a joy than I would have expected. The refined version is my go-to cello song: the piece I play to test a new space, make sure I'm in tune, and warm up my hands and fingers. But hearing the original again, remembering where the song came from, made me so thankful to have this back-catalogue of past work at my disposal. It makes me acutely aware of the potential for development and change that all the Old Parts pieces offer.
